Fall has officially arrived! Now that it's getting a little chillier and darker earlier, it's definitely the time to start bringing out all your cozy gear. Soft throws, warm slippers and hot chocolate will help make the transition from sunny days to snowy ones much more appealing. Another way to warm up your space for the fall and winter months? Change out your lighting and bring in some pretty accent lamps to make the space feel extra inviting. If an area is not being used for focused work where you need tons of overhead light (like a kitchen), it's going to feel a lot more relaxing to have soft lighting spaced out in different areas around the room. That means several different lamps, either table or standing, strategically placed in corners or on side tables.
Switch out the bulbs to softer settings (it's great to have a three-way system so you can adjust for extra light if you need). Indirect, ambient lighting will help make the overall space feel like a place you'll want to curl up in. If it's in your bedroom, softer lighting will help you fall asleep more easily (especially if you keep phone and TV use at bay in the hour or so before bed).
When it comes to the design of the lamps themselves, materials like ceramic, marble and wood are a good bet for a look that's natural and tactile. Glazed ceramic bases can add some soft color to your decor, while clear glass blends in seamlessly to the environment. Here are a few of our favorite accent lamps to get you started!
