When wedding photographer Laura Palacios was looking at the photos she took of a couple’s nuptials, she discovered something unexpected. Based on the images, the diamond on the bride’s engagement ring seemed to have slipped off of her band at some point in the evening. Palacios posted about the mishap on TikTok on May 13, 2023, and the viral clip has accumulated 13.7 million views, 641,100 likes, and nearly 700 comments. “Scrolling back through the camera still at the wedding,” the photographer wrote at the beginning of the video. Palacios shared a few close-up shots of the bride’s engagement ring with her diamond still intact. Then, she uploaded a photo of the gold band with a hollow center. “The giant diamond is gone,” the photographer continued in the caption.
Many TikTok users flocked to the comments section, sharing their thoughts and concerns. Some noticed that the band didn’t have any prongs, which is a small piece of metal that holds the center stone in place. “That’s the most unsafe setting!” one account exclaimed. “No prongs.” Another wrote, “No prongs? Was it hot glued in?” Others shared similar experiences with diamond rings. “During engagement photos one time my brides ring FLEW off her hand and got ran over by a car!!” one user exclaimed. “Thankfully, we found it and minimal damage.” Someone else recounted her own experience by explaining, “My diamond fell out twice! Apparently gold is really weak 😂 they put silver prongs on it and it’s fine now.” Of course, the most pressing comment was: “DID YOU FIND IT?”
In a follow-up video, which has also gone viral with more than 835,000 views, Palacios recapped what happened after she realized the bride’s diamond had fallen off of the band. “The moment we found the diamond,” she typed on the screen. Based on the video, an employee at the couple’s wedding venue, Wine + Garden in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, picked the diamond up off of the floor while everyone around him cheered and clapped. The camera followed the employee over to the bride, who was swimming in the pool in her wedding dress. She stepped out of the pool, gave him a kiss, and grabbed the ring, looking relieved. “My diamond fell out of my ring,” she stated, matter-of-factly, while clutching the ring to her heart.

The photographer noted how calm the bride was during the fiasco. “Replying to @user3206423994034 the most iconic cool and collected bride & groom ever,” Palacios wrote in her caption. “And shout out to @winegardennbv (the venue) employee who found it wedged between the slats of the dance floor.” Other TikTok users were also thrilled the bride found her gem. “Finding that diamond in that huge place was like a needle in a haystack,” one user pointed out. “Marriage is blessed for sure!” Others recommended that the bride get the setting fixed. “I'd definitely wouldn't go back to that jewelery store again 😂,” one account user advised.

In the next clip on her TikTok account, the photographer also posted about the couple’s big day. Instead of another clip about the engagement ring saga, she focused on the duo’s wedding cake, a three-tier white confection covered in intricate piping and adorned with moscato cherries. “I’m living for these vintage cakes and some film and direct flash to capture them,” Palacios typed on the screen. Many other users expressed their excitement about the dessert trend. “It looks like a cake I’d want to cut into!” one account owner exclaimed. “It looks so good.” One user was even inspired to recreate the confection for her own celebration. “How do you describe this cake to the baker?” the person asked. “I want to have one just like this at my wedding.”
