Attention, 2020 brides! While you’ve already chosen your venue and wedding dress, have you given any thought to how you want your wedding hair and makeup to look? It's never too early to start dreaming up the perfect wedding hairstyle. In fact, our minds are all over the year's bridal beauty trends.

We were joined by beauty influencer Michaela Podolsky at the Ines Di Santo and Lela Rose shows during Spring 2020 Bridal Fashion Week, where she gave us the rundown on the wedding hair and makeup trends all the cool-girl brides will be wearing down the aisle. We also spoke to hair experts and influencers Riawna Capri, Mary Bennett, and India Batson as well as nail pro Hannah Lee, for their bridal beauty predictions.

We'd swear it's as if these women had crystal balls...

Play With Color

Lela Rose Spring 2020

"People are starting to be okay with color," noted Michaela Podolsky at Bridal Fashion Week. "It used to be taboo to introduce a colored liner or some shimmer into your bridal look. But we’re finding a great way to balance it by keeping the skin bare." While at the Ines Di Santo show, we saw the proof in the noticeable coral pinks, pale blues, and rose-gold eye shadows the designer put on the models.

"I love when a designer takes a chance," Podolsky said. Brides, don’t be afraid to take a chance, too. At Lela Rose, a shimmery pink was done "in a tasteful, approachable way" in the inner corner of the eyelid.

A Lit-From-Within Glow

Podolsky herself rocked a gorgeous glow on her own wedding day, thanks to the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation she wore. For brides-to-be, Podolsky recommends starting micro-current facials a year out to get a lit-from-within complexion. "They call it a workout for your skin," said the influencer. She also recommends exfoliation, with Biologique Recherche P50 as her favorite formula. Her own pre-wedding beauty boost? An SK-II facial treatment mask for dewiness.

Atlanta manicurist Hannah Lee is all about that wedding-day sheen and shine. She likes a base of OPI’s Bubble Bath on fingertips, enhanced with a pearly iridescent layer. "For a more eye-catching nail, do a fun glitter gradient," suggests Lee.

Find a wedding hairstyle that’s effortless and easy. "Nothing too crazy," says Riawna Capri, based in Los Angeles and currently engaged. "You don’t want to shellac your hair with hair spray so it’s stiff. You want it to be soft and have movement." Share photos of what you like with your stylist, Capri suggests. "That way there’s no room for disappointment."

Go Big With Volume

Mary Bennett is a Houston-based hair guru who got married in 2018. For her ceremony, she added length and volume to her coiled bob with extensions she hand-curled herself. "It was super time-consuming," says Bennett, who is an ambassador for hair extension brand HerGivenHair. Her top tip for DIY brides? Test the look you want a few times so you have it down—and also so you know exactly what styling tools to bring.

Hair influencer India Batson got engaged in March 2019, and while she hasn’t nailed down her exact wedding hairstyle, she knows that her wavy locks will be in their natural state. "I’m thinking half-up, half-down, as all down might feel too hot," says the Atlanta-based bride-to-be, who is planning for summer nuptials. She also says that a day-before hair mask is the key to ensuring that strands are well hydrated on the big day. Noted!
