Looks like Zooey Deschanel is having an exciting summer! The actress, who announced her engagement to her producer boyfriend Jacob Pechenik in January, is now married — and that's not all! The New Girl actress and her hubby welcomed a healthy baby girl.
"I am thrilled to confirm that Zooey Deschanel and her husband, Jacob Pechenik, are new parents to a beautiful healthy baby girl," the actress's rep told Us Weekly in a statement, confirming that Deschanel also married Pechenik in a super-secret ceremony. According to court records, the pair wed on June 21 in Texas.
Their baby girl is the first child for the couple, who announced their pregnancy in January along with the engagement. Page Six reported that their new daughter was born in Austin, Texas in late July.
The actress revealed to Jimmy Kimmel that she and her then-fiancé were keeping their baby's sex a guessing game. "We are going to be surprised. It's more fun, you know. Make it into a game," she said during her March appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, but admits that it took a bit of work to keep it a surprise, especially during her ultrasound appointments. "You're like, 'Don't tell me, don't tell me!' " she said. "The last time the technician [said], 'Just so you know, I always use the pronoun he — it's just my habit.' She set it up because we were paranoid.
Most people want to find out."
During that appearance, Deschanel also confessed that she struggled with a few parts of her pregnancy. "You can't have sushi, you can't have cheese that tastes good," she told Kimmel. "You can have a little bit [of coffee], but I would have, like, four cups a day. And now I can have a half cup, which is a joke! It's a total joke!"
Even though this is the star's first child, she'll no doubt get her share of parenting advice from sister Emily Deschanel, who welcomed her second son in June. But the New Girl actress's costar Max Greenfield doesn't think she'll need it. ""[She'll make a] fantastic mom," Greenfield told Us Wekly. "She takes care of the whole show, so I don't think she'll have a problem with the kid."
