Calling all brides-to-be! We know you're probably 100% occupied by wedding planning, but if you happen to have a free weekend coming up before the wedding, consider grabbing your skis, packing a bag, jumping in a car (preferably one with four-wheel drive), and heading for the mountains. Spending time on the slopes, say researchers, could make you feel more blissful.
This is according to Korean researchers whose study, published in a recent issue of the journal Applied Research in Quality of Life, found that people who ski (even for the first time!) are happier and more blissful than those who sit down in the lodge with a cup of spiked hot cocoa (though, we're not going to lie, we do see the joy in that too). That's especially good news for brides planning rustic, wintertime weddings in the mountains—you can use your romantic venue-hunting time to take in those happy vibes.
Though both of you would benefit from the burst of fresh air, if your future spouse is unavailable, call up your girlfriends and make it an outdoorsy alternative bridal shower. Nothing says bonding like strapping on those clunky ski boots!
The effect, the experts add, is greater if you're really engaged in skiing and hit the slopes regularly and with gusto. But, fear not. If snow sports aren't your thing, you can still get a mood boost by just spending 20 minutes outside a day, even if in chilly weather. Scientists believe nature in all its forms is "fuel for the soul" and we might add, comfort for stressed-out brides.
Other romantic winter-time date ideas we think are grand: Ice-skating, snow-shoeing, snow-camping (yes, brrrr), and old-fashioned snowman-building. But the very best? Definitely making snow angels together.
