T-minus six days until Pippa Middleton walks down the aisle. May 20, 2017, the wedding date of the younger Middleton sister and her hedge fund manager fiancé James Matthews, has been circled on our calendar for months now, and we're at last in the final countdown until the big day. We're so close! And with the wedding officially less than a week away, more and more details are beginning to pour forth about the high-society nuptials. The latest big day detail? Who will serve as Middleton's maid of honor.
And word on the high street is, we reportedly won't be seeing the Duchess of Cambridge in a bridesmaid dress.
After tons (and tons...and tons...) of speculation over whether or not royalty will be making up this bride-to-be's bridal party, the consensus is that her big sis, the Duchess of Cambridge, is likely to sit this one out. According to the U.K.'s Mirror and as reported by Elle.com, although Pippa Middleton served as a bridesmaid at the 2011 royal wedding between her sister and Prince William (you remember that sleek sheath Alexander McQueen bridesmaid dress, don't you?), the Duchess of Cambridge most likely won't be playing a role in Pippa's wedding.
But there's no bad blood between the sisters, here. It's likely all due to a few technicalities.
Firstly, the bridesmaid and maid of honor roles are traditionally reserved for single ladies.
Of course, the Duchess of Cambridge could technically serve as a matron of honor, but reports are stating that it's highly unlikely she will.
"Kate would upstage her sister," royal expert Judy Wade previously explained to People. "It's a tricky situation for Pippa. She would want her sister by her side, as who else would she trust to make things go well? But if your sister is a future queen, she is going to upstage the bride and draw attention." Wade added, "Kate would want to be in the background as much as possible."
Being upstaged by a bridesmaid? That's the last thing any bride wants.
But there's no need to fret. With Princess Charlotte set to star as the flower girl and Prince George as pageboy, this wedding party will be plenty royal.
How many days again?!
