Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger haven't been dating long, but their engagement was anything but rushed. Pratt, who announced his engagement on Monday, January 14, didn't wait to pop the question to Schwarzenegger despite only dating for less than a year.

A source close to the couple revealed that although their relationship moved quickly, the two are very ready to take the next step.

“For someone on the outside, it might seem their engagement came too quickly,” a source told People. “But for everyone close to them, it feels like they have been dating much longer than they actually have.”

The two met through Schwarzenegger’s mother, Maria Shriver, who introduced the author, 29, to the Guardians of the Galaxy actor, 39.

“They never had a typical relationship. It very much helped that Chris already knew Maria," the source added. "They didn’t have to take things slowly because they were getting to know each other’s families. Katherine’s family instantly treated Chris like a family member.”

And getting engaged wasn't the only big step in their relationship. The couple recently moved into a home together in Santa Monica, California, not far from Pratt's ex-wife, Anna Faris, and their six-year-old son, Jack.

“Since they started dating, Katherine has taken Chris to all of her favorite neighborhood places,” the source said. “And Chris clearly likes her neighborhood.”

The couple is already starting to plan their nuptials, and have previously told People that their religious beliefs and spirituality will play a major role in their big day.

“They’re going to want a religious wedding,” the source said. “I know that Chris does, and I assume that she does, too. God is going to be a part of this marriage.”

The newly engaged pair isn't expecting a long engagement, either. A source close to Schwarzenegger said that the two are only months away from their big day.

"They are one of those rare couples that you root for from the beginning," the source said. "It won’t be a long engagement—Katherine has already talked about having a summer 2019 wedding.”
