When news broke of Alison Brie and Dave Franco's engagement, it came as a shock to basically everyone who didn't even know the duo was dating — even though they had been together for three years! But it turns out that the couple's penchant for keeping things under wraps isn't the most surprising thing about their love story — Brie, who rose to fame by starring in TV hits like Mad Men and Community, actually didn't have plans to get married. Ever.
"I never wanted to get married," the How to Be Single star told the New York Post. "I was just like, 'Well that's not my path in life, because I'm choosing this crazy lifestyle.'"
So what ultimately changed Brie's tune? "Then, you know, I fell in love," she said. "So, blah blah blah, amazing. Acting is fulfilling, but it's also not the only thing."
This isn't the first time Brie's voiced this opinion on the age-old idea of weddings and marriage. "I'm not very bridal, instinctually," Brie explained to Yahoo Style just last month. "Marriage never really interested me, I guess because I was very focused on my work. I wasn't sure if I really saw the point to it." Guess that was until one of the famous Franco brothers waltzed into her life!
"I just met that person that I was like, 'Well, I'm really in love with you and would like to grow old with you,'" Brie said of her new opinion on marriage. "I actually think it's much more romantic when two people are like, 'Oh, I could go either way on marriage, but I want to marry you.'"

Franco proposed to the former Mad Men actress with a gorgeous round-cut diamond engagement ring accented by a diamond pavé double halo that sits on a rose gold band. A move we have to give Franco serious credit for — he somehow found an engagement ring that was super on trend while also being incredibly timeless all at once. Perhaps the two went engagement ring shopping together? Unfortunately i's likely that with this out-of-the-spotlight couple, we'll never really know.
