No matter how you spin it, breakups are tough. Reality TV breakups, however, warrant an entire category of their own, and Becca Kufrin happened to be the victim of one of the most uncomfy splits we've ever viewed on the small screen.
Even if you don't consider yourself a Bachelor Nation participant, you're probably familiar with the epic, awkward finale of The Bachelor last season, when the titular bachelor, 36-year-old Arie Luyendyk Jr., proposed to and then dumped Kufrin on television to be with the show's runner-up, Lauren Burnham. There were tears. There were unpleasant silences galore (cough cough, Arie). And, naturally, in the middle of this whole reality TV mess, there was an engagement ring. So, what exactly happened to the Neil Lane jewel (with an estimated price tag of $80,000) that Luyendyk Jr. gave to Kufrin when he popped the question?
Kufrin, who has her second shot at reality TV love as the star of the current Bachelorette season, dished on the infamous sparkler yesterday on Jimmy Kimmel Live. And, no, she didn't chuck it from a bridge or run over it with her car (although either would be incredibly cathartic). When asked by Jimmy Kimmel whether she kept the bauble following the dramatic breakup, Kufrin said, "No, good riddance, no. Well, I gave it back to him when he ended things." Kimmel asked whether Luyendyk Jr. still has the ring, but Kufrin was unsure.
"I don’t know, that’s a good question," she said. "I don’t know if he has it." Wherever the engagement ring may be, here's hoping it's in good hands (read: not Arie's).
As for Kufrin's ex, a new engagement jewel was in order when he proposed to 25-year-old Burnham on After the Final Rose (at least he had the decency to not recycle rings). Burnham received another Neil Lane gem with a 3.6 carat cushion-cut diamond, so fingers crossed she has better luck with her bauble from Arie than Kufrin did (although the duo did just declare a wedding date....).
But looks like second time's the charm for Kufrin, and she now has another engagement sparkler (hopefully permanently) residing on her left ringer. She didn't sport it during her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, but Kufrin revealed to People that she's officially an engaged woman after finding love on season 14 of The Bachelorette. Of her 28 potential male suitors, none are 36-year-old race car drivers, so we're confident she'll have a better track record with the lucky lad who stole her heart this time around.
We couldn't be happier for Becca Kufrin for coming out on top of the ABC franchise (bye, Arie), and we can't wait to watch all the drama unfold every Monday. Polish up your Bachelor brackets, people—we have an upcoming televised engagement on our hands!
