The simple, timeless ribbon is back — and it's perfect for bridal. Whether you're partial to ponytails, half-up hairstyles, or braids, adding a ribbon is a charming, two-second way to add fresh polish to your wedding hairstyle. Think of it as a second thought: it makes you seem pulled together in the most effortless way. We spoke to hairstylist Perrine Rougemont, who's worked with celebs like Diane Kruger and Emma Watson. Rougemont gave us the scoop on how to incorporate ribbon into your wedding hairstyle.
Let it be imperfect. That's what makes the look so romantic and fresh (and DIY-able)! Rougemont, who created the look above on Diane Kruger, twisted ribbon and a section of hair together on each side of her head, pinned them, then gathered her hair into a loose braid and let flyaways do their thing.
Complement your dress. "We were in glamorous Venice, and she had on a black, lacy Valentino gown," Rougemont explains. "A ribbon added the perfect discreet touch." Other ideas: A soft A-line dress would look sweet with cream or white grosgrain, while black satin would look modern with a sleek sheath.
Keep it subtle. More understated than the bows of your youth, a ribbon should act as an accent. Stick to neutral colors and a width of no more than one inch, Rougemont says.
