Wedding food stations are one of our favorite ways to inject some whimsy and personality into your reception menu. And while traditional candy buffets and dessert bars will always be a hit, more and more couples are dreaming up unique and playful wedding food-station ideas that delight guests while also giving them a taste for the couple’s personalities and palates.
Trust us, a creative food bar will be the talk of the reception. Bonus points if it’s an interactive or self-serve station where guests can help themselves — that’s such a great way to help break the ice and get them mixing and mingling. From French-fry stations to build-your-own waffle bars, these six fabulous food bars and stations are the perfect addition to your reception.
Who wouldn’t want a handful of piping-hot fries after burning a ton of calories on the dance floor? Offer your favorite French fry varieties — crinkle cut, sweet potato, shoestring, wedge — but don’t stop there. Be sure to also include a variety of dipping sauces and toppings: sea salt, ground pepper, Old Bay, ranch, honey mustard... the possibilities are endless (and oh so delicious!).
If you and your groom are outdoorsy types, skip the traditional candy bar and set up a trail mix bar, instead. Fill apothecary jars and other glass containers with nuts, dried fruit, and an assortment of sweets so guests can create their own custom creations; don’t forgot to provide favor bags personalized with your names and wedding date.
Set up a self-serve smorgasboard with a variety of soft-pretzel varieties and dipping sauces, like whole-grain mustard, melted cheese or queso, and even sweet toppings like cinnamon sugar and hot fudge.
Ice Cream Sandwiches
Ice cream sammies are the perfect cool treat for guests who’ve worked up a sweat on the dance floor. Have your caterer set up a station with your favorite ice cream and cookie flavors; then invite guests to mix and match to create their own (and don’t forget the sprinkles!).
A build-your-own waffle bar would be a sweet addition to a daytime or brunch reception. Or, serve up fresh Belgian waffles as a part of your wedding-dessert display.
A popcorn station during cocktail hour will be a tasty pick-me-up before dinner; plus, the overflowing baskets of popcorn will help create a casual and fun state-fair vibe. Alternatively, you could set up a popcorn bar with your favorite flavors as a late-night snack that also doubles as a take-home edible favor.
