Whether it's your table's centerpiece or your escort card table arrangement, the flowers you choose for your wedding reception help set the tone for the whole evening. But with so many buds out there, in so many colors and sizes, it's hard to navigate all of the arrangements you need to finish off your reception's décor, where they should go, and how they should be displayed. We turned to the florists at San Francisco's Studio Choo for their wedding flower dos and don'ts—for any budget and any type of flower.
Do keep an open mind. "Many brides are set on a certain bloom, like peonies, which are available only in the spring," says Jill Rizzo. "But there are always similar flowers in season."
Do take the weather into consideration. Delicate flowers like lilacs and hydrangeas wilt in high temps.
Do walk your florist through the venue. "We love creating custom pieces, like a garland to highlight a cool entryway," says Rizzo.
Don't try to cover up eyesores. Putting flowers in front of an emergency exit will draw more attention. Decorate spaces you want guests to see, like the entrance, escort-card table, and bar.
Don't be predictable. "The room looks more interesting when each table is different," says Alethea Harampolis. Mix larger vases with small groupings of greenery or bud vases with a single bloom.
Don't put perfumey flowers like lilies and hyacinths on the table. They can overpower the food. If you must have them, carry them in your bouquet.
