Reem Acra is pretty much synonymous with inspiring wedding dress design. Her feminine, epically embellished, and romantic bridal gowns never fail to dominate the bridal fashion week runways and she always seems to top the list of the most requested designers when dream dress shopping. From our Real Weddings page to the red carpet, — with celeb clients including Angelina Jolie, Beyoncé and Madonna just to name a few — Reem Acra is seemingly everywhere. (She even designed Taylor Swift's maid-of-honor dress and her BFF's bridal ball gown!) But while her on-trend dresses are what's usually heading down the aisle, this time it was the designer herself who made that walk, as she recently tied the knot with her sweetheart, Nicolas Tabbal! So what did the undisputed Wedding Dress Queen wear on the big day? An elaborate, self-designed ball gown? A homemade bejeweled lace frock? Nope! Reem Acra's bridal style was much more shocking than that, as the bride decided to don simple, everyday attire for her city hall wedding.
Although her wedding dresses always seem to create a ruckus, Acra opted to keep things quiet when it came to her own intimate nuptials. In fact, according to ORB Magazine, she didn't even share the news with close friends until just a few days before the ceremony. And instead of the luxe venue you'd expect from the couture designer, the couple headed to New York's city hall to say their "I do's," with the bride rocking ready-to-wear in lieu of one of her own gorgeous gowns.
Pretty surprising? Definitely! But it's apparently not too out of the ordinary for the much-loved designer who is reportedly known for her "modesty and unpretentiousness." Looks like this bridalwear couturier just proved that, no matter who you are, the cardinal rule of wedding dress shopping always rings true: Above all else, be nothing but yourself.
Congrats to the surely well-dressed newlyweds!
