Mani Monday: Wedding Manicures Inspired by Couture Gowns

Of all the fashion weeks, haute couture is one of our favorites because it presents clothing in all of its artful, inspirational glory. It's not about buying the made-to-order dresses (although that would be nice, too) but fawning over each look in its entirety—the clothes, the accessories, the makeup, the hair—to glean from it fresh ideas. Take, for example, our most recent venture, in which we enlisted our resident nail-art expert, Associate Photo Editor Brenda Armendariz, to create four haute couture-inspired manicures on staffers with hand model-worthy nails. (We know, we love our jobs.) The result? Let's just say you won't be in danger in running out of new ideas for your engagement party, bachelorette, honeymoon, and of course, the wedding day.

The show: Chanel

The look: Eco-friendly, nature-inspired gowns and separates—done in a very luxe, very Chanel way.

The manicure: Bright blooms in red, blue, yellow, and orange make this one perfect for your bachelorette or honeymoon, especially when accessorized with a slew of thin gold bangles on your arm and a post-wedding tan (sunless tan, that is).

The show: Giambattista Valli

The look: Dresses with floral appliqués and ruffles made in classic spring colors—pinks, greens, white—were Valli's ode to the gardens of Paris. (Also very refreshing to see in the middle of winter.)

The manicure: Every finger doesn't have to be identical—against a white backdrop, a few floral vines on select nails will pop in the prettiest way. Try it for your bridal shower or post-wedding brunch, and pair it with an equally girlish white mini dress and a swipe of bright pink lipstick.

The show: Valentino

__The look:__Early 20th century Venetian gowns, complete with fluid capes, metallic embroideries, and gold snake hair accessories.

__The manicure:__A white base with subtle gold vines growing from the top of the nail down. We might be a touch biased, but this is basically the prettiest day-of manicure ever. In our dream world, we'd wear it with, well, this Valentino dress. But if you can't get this dress, then something ethereal with layers of silk or chiffon trailing behind you.

The key polishes: Morgan Taylor Professional Nail Lacquer in Give Me Gold, CoverGirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Snow Storm, and Lancôme Vernis in Love Gel Top Coat.

The show: Zuhair Murad

The look: Dresses fit for a fairytale (wedding or otherwise), with flower motifs and crystal embellishments in a variety of pastels.

The manicure: An ombre of soft pink shades make this floral pattern so versatile. Wear it for your engagement party, bridal shower, wedding, or brunch. If you do decide to choose it for your day-of manicure, we're envisioning it with a pale-pink wedding gown because monochrome = super chic.
