As far as wedding cakes go, your options are as limitless as your imagination: You can choose a classic tiered white confection or go for something trendy and unexpected. One style brides are currently gravitating towards? Wedding cakes with words.

While the idea seems simple enough, adding writing to your wedding cake can really transform your dessert. Whether you select your favorite poem, piece of scripture, a beloved song lyric, or even a quote from your own vows, there are some beautiful ways to add words to your wedding day dessert. Here, five of our favorite examples of different ways to try the trend.

Song Lyrics

Is music the cornerstone of your relationship? Do you have "a song" that just won't work for your first dance? Ask your baker to add your favorite line to your wedding cake, like on this beautiful gray-and-white confection. Sweet Lydia's of San Diego calligraphed the line "Breath me in, I'm yours to keep," from Secondhand Serenade's "Fall For You" onto the wedding cake seen above.

Poetry

This white-and-blush two-tiered wedding cake was baked by Andrea Kargl and decorated with Pablo Neruda's famous love poem, "100 Love Sonnets: XVII." For couple's with a favorite piece of poetry that they've been unable to include elsewhere in their wedding day, your cake can be the perfect platform.

Your Wedding Vows

You poured your heart and soul into your wedding vows, so consider showcasing them on your cake. If you're planning on having a large chunk of writing all in one place, keep two tiers blank to balance the look, like on this cake from Earth & Sugar.

A Bible Verse

The 1 Corinthians "Love is patient, love is kind," scripture has become practically synonymous with modern religious weddings. Use it in a more unexpected way by asking your baker to pipe into your wedding cake, like on this confection baked by Creative Crumbs.

Book Quote

M Cakes Sweets created this two-tiered confection complete with a quote from Jonathan Green's The Fault In Our Stars. Select a romantic line from your own favorite novel as a way to make your cake truly speak to your style.
