Wedding-cake trends are always getting more complex—but this one probably takes the cake. Emma Jayne Cake Design, a U.K.-based cake-design company, constructed a wedding cake that looks exactly like an ornate wedding gown. It's hard to believe that this is a confectionery creation and not something you'd find at Kleinfeld.
The cake, which was designed to look like designer Mak Tumang's "Angela" gown, was displayed this week in London at Cake International, a sugarcraft, decorating, and baking show. According to Instagram posts by Crystal Parade, the cake took Jayne three weeks to make, and ingredients include opal crystals, Preciosa crystals, and gray and pale-pink sugar paste.
Jayne's cake was displayed at Cake International as part of its "Wedding Gowns Through the Ages" exhibit. Cake International's Facebook page aired a Facebook Live showing the rest of the exhibit, and you can see several other impressive wedding cakes—many of which are also designed to look like couture wedding wear.
Here is Tumang's "Angela" dress, which you can wear, not just eat.
To compare, here's the cake version:
Tumang even visited Jayne at the cake show to see the creation for himself. "Huge THANK YOU to Mak Tumang for coming to see his dress made from sugar at Cake International ❤️," Jayne wrote alongside a photo of herself, Tumang, and the cake on Instagram. "It was such an honour to meet you."
We're not sure if the cake is edible, considering it took so long to make, but we've reached out to Emma Jayne Cake Designs for confirmation. Either way, a wedding cake designed to look exactly like your dress could be a memorable centerpiece at your wedding—as long as it doesn't steal your spotlight, of course.
But if your bridal style is more understated than over-the-top, you can always get a mini re-creation of your wedding cake.
