Alright, lovelies, we know you're exhausted. Wedding planning has that effect. But if you're yawning at your desk right now, consider these four surprising, and non-caffeinated, ways to perk up:
1. Commit a Random Act of Kindness:__ I know, this probably sounds strange. But experts say that when we do something nice for another human being, it actually boosts endorphins in the body (the feel-good hormones), which can not only lift your mood, but also give you a jolt of much-needed pre-wedding energy. My personal fave: buying the coffee drink for the person in the car behind me in drive-through Starbucks lines. It never fails to make me feel happy and energized. Try it!
__2. Say Chia:__No, not the plant (pet?), rather the seeds. Loaded with good-for-you omega-3 fatty acids and praised since the time of the ancient Aztecs for their energy-giving properties, you can find all kinds of chia energy bars at the grocery store, but my personal favorite is buying them in bulk and mixing them into muffin or pancake batter for an extra dose of energy.
3. Try This Acupressure Spot: A few years ago, I learned about an energizing trick that some people swear by: Apparently, the backs of your knees are loaded with receptors that when pressed properly, can boost your energy. Here's what to do: Simply press your fingers against the back of your knees and apply a bit of light, massaging pressure. (The key to chasing the yawns away is holding for a few long moments.) OK, maybe not something a bride can do under 27 layers of tulle, but you could definitely try this at your desk in the days leading up to the wedding!
__4. Drink Up:__Did you know that one of the major causes of exhaustion is dehydration? A high school teacher of mine used to have us drink two cold glasses of ice water after lunch in calculus class, and I swear it kept us going through that grueling hour. Go rehydrate your cells right now (and yes, before your pals take you out for your bachelorette party, too)!
