Just when you thought the Duggar family wedding celebrations couldn't get more awkward, the ever-growing clan of 20+ is here to remind you that yes, they really can. Prepare to feel uncomfortable as we present to you the spectacle that is John-David Duggar's first kiss.
In early November, Counting On's John-David Duggar and Abbie Burnett tied the knot in Arkansas, where they were surrounded by their massive family as they said their I do's. On Tuesday, TLC aired the couple's wedding on an episode of the family's reality show, which included a shot of the couple's very first kiss. (The Duggar family are devout independent Baptists and don't believe in pre-marital contact, with the exception of side-hugs.) Understandably, not everyone's first kiss comes gracefully, but John-David's approach to it goes beyond an awkward head-bump.
In a clip released by TLC, the couple is shown at the altar, hand-in-hand, as the pastor tells the groom that he can kiss his bride. But instead of heading straight for her lips, John-David decided to first kiss Burnett on both hands, one by one, then on both shoulders.
"You're so silly!" Burnett responds in the clip.
The groom then made his way up to her forehead, kissing between her eyebrows before finally kissing her on the lips—a display that lasted a total of 45 seconds. You can watch the entire moment on TLC's website, which includes the wedding ring arriving at the altar via drone.
The couple began courting in June 2018 and married just three months later. “We are so excited to be married!" the couple said in a statement. "It was a beautiful moment and we so appreciate our friends and family for sharing this day with us. Most of all we are thankful to Christ for bringing us together. This is going to be an amazing journey!”
