Chignons are the ultimate sophisticated wedding hairstyle. Probably the most timeless 'do out there, a slicked back chignon is easy and makes your big day look that much more elegant. To update these tried-and-true tresses, make like the celebs and add a bejeweled accessory. In our wedding hairstyle how-to video, hairsylist Matt Fugate shows you how to easily get this glamorous look for your own big day!
Fugate's first piece of advice? Embrace your hair's natural texture.
"The chignon is a bridal style that's been around forever." Fugate explains. "The trick is to make it look youthful and cool. When starting this style I want you to totally embrace your natural texture. Whether you're curly, straight, thick or thin, this will totally work for you."
To get started, pull your hair into a low ponytail and play up the texture: be it by pushing and pulling your locks or messing them up even more. Afterwards, wrap it around the ponytail, and don't worry about any flyaways. In fact, the messier it is, the better it'll look in the end!
Once you've pinned everything down, you can add your accessory of choice, either a hairpiece made for this exact look or you can even use a necklace to wrap around the low-lying 'do (a pretty creative place to incorporate your "something old" or "something borrowed" if you ask us!).
