Victoria Beckham is serving up the latest edition of 90s nostalgia in a new video for British Vogue. The designer and former Spice Girl covers the October issue with her family in honor of the 10th anniversary of her first cover with the magazine. In addition to the cover, Vogue produced a satirical video to showcase Beckham’s style over the last 10 years.
"Victoria Beckham: A Decade of Excellence" starts with the editors preparing for the photoshoot and commenting on the designer’s refined and minimal style. “Today we’re here at Vogue and we’re shooting a cover story celebrating the rich and inspiring history of one of the most enduring style icons of all time,” Beckham announces. “Me, Victoria Beckham.”
British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful goes on to talk about how everything Beckham does is “pared down” and “simple.” When he consults Posh Spice on the vision for the shoot she reminds him of her minimal style.
“Edward you know I’m a minimalist right?” she asks. “Super simple every time.” In the next scene Beckham poses in her wedding dress from her July 4,1999 nuptials to David Beckham, which was far from minimal. The bride wore a silk pleated ball gown by Vera Wang that featured a 20-foot train and sculpted neckline, topped off with an 18K-gold tiara. You know Posh, very simple, always.
The couple switched up their wedding day looks for the reception. The whole family—their first born Brooklyn Beckham included—changed into full-on purple looks to close out the night.
The video continues as Beckham tries on all of her most memorable looks from red carpets and music videos, including a black PVC catsuit, a head-to-toe metallic look, and glamorous evening wear (complete with makeup from artist Charlotte Tilbury, whose “little sun-kissed” glow turns into a full face of gold highlighter).
Beckham continues to describe her vision to Enninful in terms only true fans would know. She throws it back to some classic Spice Girl lyrics. “What I want, what I really, really, want, is me, four other women, one sporty, bit of an athleisure direction, another one that’s younger, lots of pink, pigtails, one that’s very glamorous — full-on leopard print,” she explains. “And then another one that’s super, super sexy. Big boobs, red hair.”
The video wraps up with Beckham giving Enninful a few words of encouragement. “Edward, I’m giving you everything. All that joy can bring. This, I swear. And all that I want from you is the promise...You know what, at least give my idea a shot,” she said quoting her hit “Say You’ll Be There.”
She ends her pep talk with words to live by: "Spice up your life Edward, just spice up your life."
