To this day, Lisa Park and David An aren’t sure if they were set up, but they both know it was love at first sight. “We met on New Year’s Eve in 2014 when we were introduced by a mutual friend,” she says. “Something sparked almost immediately. We even took a picture together like a couple that night.” Three years later, David made plans to take Lisa back to the restaurant where they’d had their first date. “I didn’t think anything of it because it was the night before my birthday,” she says. But as the meal came to a close, the waiter came out with a dessert plate with a small black box in the middle. “I was shocked! I just stared at the box until David reminded me to open it and got on one knee,” she says.
For their May 19, 2017, wedding, the couple knew they wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of New York City, so they headed upstate to the Garrison in Philipstown, New York. “We felt this warmth and excitement as soon as we drove through the gates,” Lisa remembers. "The venue was surrounded by the panoramic views of the mountains, and the whole place was filled with natural lighting." From there, the bride took charge of the planning and design, opting for soft hues of dusty rose, gray, and champagne. Check out how Bashful Captures captured all of her garden-party details!
Lisa said yes to an ornate Sophia Tolli gown with a full tulle skirt and train and a sheer bodice and back. “This was the very first dress I tried on,” she says. “It’s so hard to explain, but I think you just know in your gut when you’ve found the right one.”
True to their garden wedding theme, the bride carried a lush bouquet of dusty-pink roses, ranunculus, scabiosas, dusty millers, and olive branches. And how cute is David's daughter as their flower girl?!
Before walking down the aisle, the bride and her stepdaughter met up for a little pep talk. "She turned to me and said she was nervous," Lisa remembers. "We had our moment together, then gave each other a high-five before it was our turn to walk down the aisle. It was only a few seconds, but I will always remember and cherish those seconds with her."
The couple exchanged vows beneath a pergola of vines decorated with roses, ranunculus, and greenery. “There was a moment when it felt like it was just the two of us up there,” Lisa says. “I remember gazing out at the view for a moment and soaking it all in. It’s something we’ll both always cherish!”
Inside the reception space, guests found their escort cards and took their seats at round tables topped with soft-neutral linens and centerpieces of roses, ranunculus, astilbes, and greenery.
The couple served a strawberry shortcake covered in textured buttercream and fresh flowers.
At the end of the night, David and Lisa shared their first dance to “Perfect,” by Ed Sheeran. “Having our first dance as the sun set around us was truly magical,” Lisa says.
