Tasteful Football Wedding Ideas to Incorporate Your Love of The Game on Your Big Day

If you'd prefer a jersey over a wedding dress, this one's for you

If your Sundays revolve around kick-off times, tailgating, and cheering on your favorite teams, you're not alone. The NFL and football in general has been growing more and more popular in recent years, and chances are you or your fiancé have a favorite team. If you're a true football fanatic, consider incorporating these tasteful sports touches to your wedding.

Your wedding photos will last a lifetime and always remind you of your special day, so why not add a bit of creativity to your shoot? Grab your favorite jerseys and keep them on hand during your engagement session or for your actual wedding photos. Throw them on for a few fun shots you'll proudly display. If you live near your alma mater's field or favorite stadium, head there for some pre-ceremony shots. (If permitted, of course.) Not only will they represent your love for one another, but for your team too. Just be careful not to mess up your wedding hair!

Food and Drink

Speak to your caterers about setting up a "Tailgate" themed food station during your cocktail hour. Beer cheese, dips, subs, chips and more are sure to please your guests—especially if your wedding is on a football Sunday! Consider naming your signature cocktails after your favorite team, or a perfect logo or pigskin shaped cake topper to perfect your cake cutting.

Your cake's colors in general can also reflect your die-hard football pride. But, if you don't want to go to that extreme (an orange cake might not be the most photo-friendly—sorry, Clemson fans), treat guests to additional football-themed cookies or cupcakes instead.

At the Reception

Enter to your favorite fight song, the NFL theme song, or cheer (extra bonus points if you have some sweet touchdown dances or celebratory moves.) Throw on jerseys, and toss a football to one another across the dance floor as you kick off your dance party. You can even ask your emcee to announce the entrances like your favorite announcer for a fun touch to get the party started. To help guests hop on board, you can also use football memorabilia for photo booth props.

Who says you have to toss your bouquet? (Those things are expensive!) Throwing a souvenir football instead can change things up a bit, while proclaiming your football fanaticism and passing along a good luck superstition to the next bride-to-be.

Speaking of bouquet, one of the easiest (and most subtle) ways to show off your fandom is through your bridal blooms. Not every NFL team has the most flattering, wedding-worthy colors, so you're by no means obligated to go all out and collect matching flowers (unless you want to, that is). Think smaller, like wrapping a piece of ribbon or velvet dedicated to your team around the arrangement, or infuse a small keychain into the stems.

Surprise your husband with a charm of your favorite team logo on your garter. Gift him team socks or cufflinks to wear on the big day, or sport some logoed undergarments for a big reveal on your wedding night. The groom and his guys can even don socks or bow ties honoring your football loyalties, depending on how much team spirit you're willing to incorporate into your wedding.

Decor & Stationary

Give a nod to America's favorite past time by creating save the date magnets or even wedding invitations that look like tickets for the big game. Get creative with your guest book and have guests sign and leave a little love on a football that you can proudly display in your home. Or, ditch traditional ceremony programs and opt for football-friendly rosters to introduce your bridal party members.
