Saying “I do” this spring? Congratulations! It’s a beautiful time of year, but it also comes with a unique set of Mother Nature-related challenges. Before you walk down the aisle and greet all of your guests, make sure that you're prepared for any spring surprises with these top tips from our experts.
Prepare for Weather.
April showers bring May flowers… or even more showers! Make sure you’re ready for whatever unexpected challenges Mother Nature throws at you, from a cold snap to clouds and rain. Work with your planner and venue to come up with a backup plan for any parts of your wedding that are scheduled to take place outdoors, whether that means reserving a tent or selecting an indoor alternative. Spend some time putting thought into this so it’s a plan you really love — no matter what the forecast says.
Remember Your Guests.
Make sure you’re prepared to keep guests comfortable. That could mean renting heat lamps to scatter throughout cocktail hour or providing pashminas that guests can wrap around their shoulders if temps are expected to be chillier than usual.
Watch Out for Mud.
If you’re heading outside at any point, keep an eye out for mud and puddles! Recruit a bridesmaid to help you carry your skirt, and grab a pack of disposable white plastic tablecloths. For photo shoots, you can use the tablecloths to cover any squishy spots, with the excess tucked up under your dress. The white color means it won’t be noticeable in your photos.
Beware of Bugs.
As those flowers bloom and plants grow, bugs begin to appear. Have bug spray on-hand so guests can avoid mosquito bites, or light citronella candles. Worried about attracting insects? Opt for less-fragrant flowers in your bouquets and arrangements, and keep floral perfume to a minimum.
