Sometimes all you want is a romantic escape with the main man in your life — and other times, you crave the company of others when you travel, whether you'd like shopping partner or someone else for your guy to take golfing. Either way, experts agree that it's becoming more common for couples to vacation together.
"Traveling with other couples can be a great way to experience the world with like-minded friends who share your tastes in fun," says travel expert Mark Murphy. "It also offers the opportunity for individuals to get out of their comfort zones, possibly doing things they wouldn't necessarily do with just their significant other on a trip, and allows for couples to split up according to what they might want to do and experience."
If a doubling-up on a vacation sounds like something you'd like to do, Murphy offers these five vacation destinations as the best spots for group travel:
New York: In the city that never sleeps, you'll never run out of things to do. Murphy recommends booking a hotel in Midtown, where you'll be in walking distance to all the city's attractions, including Broadway, Central Park and shopping.
South America: "Are you an adventurous couple?" asks Murphy. "Look for an exciting tour operator, such as G Adventures, to have authentic local experiences in places like South America or Asia and everything in between."
Disney World: "Who says you have to have kids to go?" says Murphy. "Bring out the inner kid in the entire group." Some resorts offer world-class spas, golfing and music venues, too.
Las Vegas: This night-life local is perfect "for couples couples who enjoy gambling, seeing shows and good food," says Murphy.
River Cruising in Europe: "River cruise lines, such as AmaWaterways, offer an intimate on-board setting with no more than 164 passengers, allowing you meet new people and share experiences with," explains Murphy. And taking a river cruise, rather than one across the sea, lets you get up-close and personal with the cities you really want to see.
