Don't cry, shopgirl, don't cry. Actually, we won't blame you if you shed some tears—this is pretty darn adorable. During an appearance at the Texas Book Festival this weekend, Tom Hanks helped a man in the crowd pop the question and propose to his girlfriend. Spoiler alert: She said yes! Who could say no to Tom Hanks? He is the undisputed king of '90s romantic comedies, after all.
The Associated Press via PEOPLE.com reports that Tom Hanks attended the Texas Book Festival in Austin, Texas this weekend to promote his new book, a short story collection called Uncommon Type: Some Stories. While there, Hanks took a break from book promos to help out a fan—a fan who was planning to pop the question.
During the question and answer portion of Hanks' session, the actor/author told the crowd that he was bored of answering their questions and informed them that he had one of his own. Yep, you know what's coming.
Hanks then announced that there was a man in the crowd, Ryan McFarling, who had a question for a woman named Nikki Young. What was the question? We'll give you one guess.
Ryan wanted to ask “Nikki, will you marry me?” Hanks told the audience. Ryan and a very surprised Nikki then made their way to the stage where Ryan got down on one knee and proposed to his love. She of course accepted and was hugged by Hanks who gave his best wishes to the happy couple.
Luckily, another audience member managed to snap a pic of the memorable moment. "A wedding proposal happens at the @tomhanks reading @texasbookfest just now," she wrote on Twitter. The official Texas Book Festival Twitter page also posted photos from the proposal. "And a surprise wedding proposal with the help of @tomhanks during his Q&A!" they captioned the sweet snapshots. "Congratulations to the happy couple!"
Thanks for helping this magical moment happen, Tom Hanks!
