Congratulations are in order for Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black! The Olympic diver and award-winning writer and director were married last weekend, tying the knot on May 6, 2017. The location? The very chic Bovey Castle Hotel, which is about 30 minutes away from Daley's home city of Plymouth, England. According to the BBC, media reports alleged the couple reenacted a scene from Romeo & Juliet during the ceremony, but this was later proved to be untrue. However, in our humble opinion, the swoonworthy photos of the day are Shakespearean levels of amazing!
The couple announced their engagement in 2015, after dating for two years, in the most old-fashioned but classiest way possible: via newspaper. A short piece in The Times of London read, “The engagement is announced between Tom, son of Robert and Debra Daley of Plymouth, and Lance, son of Jeff Bisch of Philadelphia and Anne Bisch of Lake Providence.”
Little was known about the couple's relationship until Daley posted a YouTube video announcing his relationship with a man; he decided to keep Black's name private at the time. “Come spring this year, my life changed, massively, when I met someone, and they make me feel so happy, so safe, and everything just feels great.… And, well, that someone is a guy.”
And now that someone is officially his hubby! At the couple's recent I do's, the grooms wore navy and burgundy suits for the ceremony, which concluded with a confetti toss as they made their way back up the aisle. "On 6th May 2017, I married the love of my life," Daley captioned an Instagram snapshot of the monumental moment. "We shared the day with 120 of our closest friends and family, from Texarkana to Plymouth! Thank you to everyone who made this weekend the most special weekend of our lives!"
The pair also took some other ultraromantic shots, posing on a rustic countryside bridge on the venue's gorgeous grounds. "6th of May 2017. When my hopes and dreams of 'Maybe one day…' came true," Black captioned another one of the photos.
The night closed with an epic fireworks display—the perfect end to a perfect day. "Truly unforgettable," Daley captioned the stunning photo. We'd say!
Daley's relationship with Black was his first with the same sex, and in 2015, the Olympic diver opened up about his sexuality during an interview with The Guardian. “I guess it has always been in the back of my head, but you never really know. I’d never had feelings for a person along those lines. I’d been in relationships with girls where I’d had sexual feelings, but it became so much more intense when I met Lance. I thought, ‘Whoa, this is weird. Why am I having these feelings for somebody?’ It freaked me a little bit initially, but then it was like, ‘OK, this makes sense.’ Lots of things started to make sense.”
