Fate is real, y’all! And if you needed any more proof than the serendipitous love story of yourself and your own partner, allow us to introduce you to Madison O’Neill. In need of a last-minute date for a wedding, she turned to Twitter. And lo and behold, she successfully found a plus-one on the social-media site—a plus-one who is now her fiancé! (Thankfully, he didn’t propose via DM.)
"So hmu if you wanna be my date to a wedding tomorrow," Madison O’Neill posted to Twitter back in July of 2015. Post-breakup, she found herself dateless for an upcoming wedding and needed to find a quick plus-one. "I figured if anyone responded, it would be a close friend that would come with me just for fun," she told Buzzfeed. But much to her surprise, she got a random reply from Charlie Dohrmann. "Dude I’ll be your date to a wedding!" Charlie wrote to Madison.
Apparently, they had attended the same high school but never had the chance to officially meet. "He thought I was cute in high school but never had the courage to talk to me, but he saw that tweet as an opportunity and thought, hey, why not," Madison explained.
Although she was hesitant at first, Madison accepted. "I ended up saying yes because I figured that having one awkward date wouldn’t be the end of the world, and I might as well go for it," she said. Spoiler alert: This won’t the first time that Madison will be saying yes to a proposal from Charlie!
After having a great time at the wedding, Madison and Charlie began dating, and two and a half years later, Charlie popped the question. Now Madison is planning a wedding of her own to her onetime random wedding date! "I definitely wouldn’t have guessed that we’d end up where we are now," she said.
Since posting the news of their engagement to—where else?—Twitter, pretty much all of the social-media site is invested in this relationship. "I’m just saying, if this wedding isn’t live streamed I’m gonna be upset bc this is Twitter. And we a fam," wrote user Melissa Rivera.
We second that request!
