The woman you ask to be your maid of honor is being given a position of honor at your wedding. Along with the title comes certain responsibilities. And a certain level of etiquette and decorum. Unfortunately, not every MOH is up to standards. Here, pro planner Sandy Malone dishes on the worst maids of honor she's ever encountered.
1. The MOH whose boyfriend ditched her before the wedding.
Instead of spending her time reassuring the bride before she walked down the aisle, she was complaining, pouting and texting about how her boyfriend stood her up. She drank before the wedding and started again as soon as the ceremony finished, and she was MIA after formal pics, despite the bride's plea for help with her gown. When it was time to toast at the reception, the MOH was so drunk that nobody should have handed her the microphone. Her toast was unintelligible, and she was too drunk to join the wedding party at the After Hours, another bridesmaid had to leave and take her back to the hotel before she further embarrassed herself or the bride. As a MOH, she was a total zero.
__2. The two maids of honor who bonded with each other — not the bride. __
When they should have been helping orchestrate the couples' exit, the MOhs led the other bridesmaids back to the hotel for a pool party. They didn't even stay to try to catch the bride's bouquet. The bride was devastated and a beautiful night was ruined. Two isn't always better than one.
__3. The role of "Diva for a Day" should go to the bride, if anyone. But this MOH was all about herself. __
She made the hairdresser redo her updo three times, putting everybody else behind schedule. She spoke in a rude and demanding tone to all of the wedding vendors making sure we understood we were "the help." She bossed around the other bridesmaids until everybody was miserable. Even the mother of the bride seemed afraid of her. The bride seemed to tolerate all of the MOH's ridiculous behavior as though it was par for the course. But nobody could figure out why they were even friends, much less why she was maid of honor...
