It's been 20 years since the '80s-inspired rom-com The Wedding Singer came out, and a lot has changed since then—including the wedding songs we have on our must-play list. Anyone who has either been to a wedding or is planning one knows that keeping the dance floor lively is no easy feat. Between choosing you and your spouse's favorite music and accommodating the rest of your guests' (including Grandma's!) tastes, keeping the people happy on the dance floor all night is nearly a science.
Even though every one of your guests probably has his or her own taste in music, there are a few tunes you should really just nix if you want to keep the party going. In honor of the 20th anniversary of The Wedding Singer, wedding website WeddingWire rounded up some of the best and worst songs to include on your wedding-day playlist—and you guessed it, "YMCA" has got to go.
Here are a few songs you'll want to leave off of your playlist if you don't want eye rolls from your guests.
Biggest dance-floor buzzkills:
- "Chicken Dance"
- "Cotton Eye Joe"
- Conga lines
On the other hand, these are a few jams that are always crowd pleasers and ranked as some of the most popular wedding songs of the year.
