The Venus et Fleur Founders Filled Their Wedding With 150,000 Roses

How do you decorate your wedding when you’re the founders of eternity rose company Venus et Fleur? With roses, of course—thousands of them! On December 28, 2018, Seema Bansal and Sanjam “Sunny” Chadha tied the knot in Miami, surrounded by 250 guests and 150,000 of their gorgeous Ecuadorean blooms.

The couple first met when Seema was visiting a friend in New York City in December of 2014, and after six months dating long-distance, Seema moved to NYC to be with Sunny permanently. The same year, the couple founded Venus et Fleur. And in June of 2017, on the terrace of a suite at the Shangri-La Hotel in Paris, Sunny proposed to Seema with the Eiffel Tower in the background. "I tagged him on a photo on Instagram when we first started dating telling him this is exactly where I’d like to be," she admits. "He never forgot that and re-created it for the proposal."

For their wedding, Sunny and Seema invited everyone to Miami for three days of events, beginning on December 27, 2018, and ending on December 29, 2018. Once there, the couple treated their guests to a spectacular progression of parties—from a Parisian-inspired Sangeet ceremony to a moody reception with a surprise performance by DJ Khaled—at three different venues. "All three venues are historical and they all are so different, but equally just as beautiful," Seema explains. "We wanted our guests to see a different part of Miami." They worked with Jennifer J Events and Design House Décor to incorporate Venus et Fleur roses throughout each event, using a variety of palettes and themes that made each celebration unique. “I was so hands-on with the planning, even with such an amazing team involved, but after a year, I’m so excited to get back into our business,” Seema says of the process.

The festivities began with the Mendhi ceremony. Seema wore a pink and mauve lengha by Supriya Munjal for this first event.

On the 27th, the Sangeet ceremony followed at Vizcaya Museums and Gardens. Seema wore a gray lengha by Tarun Tahiliani, made with a sheer material and featuring a cape alongside intricate, star-shaped beading.

“We wanted the Sangeet to have a Parisian feel to match our Paris engagement,” Seema says. A bangle bar had guests decked out for the celebration, while a late-night costume change (into another lengha covered with astrologically-inspired motifs) had Seema in the spotlight on the couple’s custom dance floor.

For the Sikh ceremony on December 28th, Seema wore an intricate burnt orange lengha by Anita Dongres. “She incorporated roses into the design, as well as the details of a gorgeous tile from the Golden Temple, the most famous Sikh temple in the world,” says Seema. The bride wore gorgeous jewelry sourced from Jaipur, India, and carried a white bouquet of Venus et Fleur roses.

“The happy tears when everyone saw my lengha for the first time were so moving,” recalls the bride. “My sister gave birth to my beautiful niece shortly before our wedding, so she wasn’t able to be there, but I got to FaceTime with her that morning.” Seema’s bridesmaids all wore white and ivory outfits with gold accents and carried matching ivory Venus et Fleur bouquets, of course.

The couple’s ceremony had a light, airy ambiance perfect for a sunny afternoon. Blush and pink roses covered arrangements and arches throughout the Biltmore Hotel.

For the occasion, Sunny wore an ivory sherwani with an emerald velvet turban and shawl.

That night, Seema donned an off-the-shoulder Marchesa gown and Sunny wore a classic Dior tuxedo for their reception at the Alfred Dupont Building. The bride’s fitted attire was a lovely contrast to the flowing skirts of her lenghas—and the beauty of a Venus et Fleur bouquet was that she could carry the same bouquet again!

Inside the reception space, roses in individual boxes held guests’ escort cards, set atop gold shelving glowing in candlelight.

The couple’s reception was all about red Venus et Fleur roses, from the arched and draped entryway to the moody dinner space. Tables were decked to the nines, with long tables topped with gold linens and hundreds of candles. Nearby round tables, surrounded by Lucite chairs and red velvet banquettes, had clear tops that covered lush red rose displays. “We served classic Italian and Indian dishes, including our favorite spicy rigatoni from Carbone in New York City,” says the bride.

At the bar, guests chose between the "Fleur God" (blanco tequila, club soda, jalapeño, lime, and agave) and the "Fleur Goddess" (blanco tequila, still water, lemon juice, and a floral ice cube).

For the first dance, Seema changed into an off-the-shoulder gown covered in floral embroidery, and she and Sunny danced to “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran.

After dinner, the couple had one final surprise for the guests. “Once the dancing got started, we surprised our guests with a performance by DJ Khaled!” says the bride." Everyone was shocked. It really brought the energy to another level!”

Looking back on the event-filled days, Sunny and Seema say they are thankful for their wedding planner because they were truly able to enjoy the festivities. “We were able to be in the moment, leaving the worrying to someone who could actually take care of any issues,” says the bride. “It’s one of the most important days of your lives, so it’s worth it!”
