Yvonne Strahovski's character Serena Joy Waterford on The Handmaid's Tale may be unable to have children—but in real life, the Emmy-nominated actress is actually days away from giving birth to her first child. And at the 2018 Emmy Awards, Strahovski accidentally revealed the sex of her soon-to-be little one: a baby boy.
When speaking with E! News's Giuliana Rancic, Strahovski immediately touched on her pregnancy, saying that she is due "any day now"—but "hopefully not today." And while giving birth at the Emmy Awards would be an amazing story, it's one that Strahovski (who is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series) wants to avoid. "Just gonna hold him in there and hope for the best," she said to Rancic on the red carpet.
Rancic immediately caught the pronoun slip, asking Strahovski and her husband, Tim Loden, if they were revealing the sex. "I just let it slip earlier, didn't I?" she responded. "Breaking news!"
"It's out!" added Loden. "If it changes, we'll let you know."
The accidental sex reveal isn't the first time that Strahovski has made a major announcement on the Emmys red carpet, either. At last year's awards show, she arrived with Loden by her side and shared with E! News that after six years together, they had tied the knot earlier in 2017.
"It was very hot...it was a heat wave, but we all made it through," Loden told E!'s Jason Kennedy about the nuptials at the time.
"We ended up jumping in the lake in our suit and gown...we had a great time," Strahovski added.
The icing on the cake to Strahovski's year of exciting announcements would be to take home an Emmy award, but the Australian actress faces some stiff competition from her own costars. Also nominated alongside her in the category are Alexis Bledel and Ann Dowd. "I’m just so honored to be nominated in such a cool category with these women," Strahovski told Rancic. "To be sharing it with my husband, and my parents are here today, too."
