But where would they want their passports stamped when it comes time for a romantic honeymoon? Read on to find out how The Blonde Salad's Chiara Ferragni would spend a romantic vacay in Puglia!
As one of the original fashion bloggers, Ferragni has turned her lifestyle website, The Blonde Salad, into a mini-empire (and by "mini" we mean multimillion dollar). Now, the Italian beauty has her own e-commerce fashion line, the Chiara Ferragni Collection, and lucrative partnerships with beauty brands like SK-II. While she's made Los Angeles her home base (with a gorgeous bachelorette pad to boot), Ferragni is often found putting her street style skills to work in New York, London, Milan, and Paris during Fashion Month, with trips to Hawaii, the Italian Dolomites, and of course—Puglia—in between.
Here, she gives us her tips for how to honeymoon in this undiscovered Italian hot spot.
The Destination: Puglia, Italy
All golden beaches, soaring cliffs, and baroque architecture, this still-unspoiled region on Italy’s sun-drenched heel is where Ferragni spent much of last summer. “It’s one of the most beautiful places, with amazing scenery, nature, and ancient history,” she says.
Where to Stay: A Fortified Country Home
Puglia is known for its masserias, fortified country houses with working farms. Ferragni’s fave? Masseria Torre Coccaro (from $309), a 36-room retreat with one of the prettiest beaches in Italy and olive groves that are over 800 years old.
Where to Eat: Historic Classic Fare
Once used by 17th-century nobility as a banquet hall, the candlelit Ristorante Grotta Palazzese is carved into a limestone cave and has views of the Adriatic Sea. “It’s extremely romantic, and the food is delicious!” Think grilled octopus and zucchini blossoms stuffed with cheese and fresh Italian herbs.
What to Do: It's All About the Food
Spend a day getting lost in the winding cobblestone streets of Ostuni, aka the White City, famous for its whitewashed buildings with bright green or blue doors. Or post up at the hotel and book horseback riding, a seaside wine tasting at sunset, or a cooking class with ingredients picked fresh from the garden. “I learned to make orecchiette here,” says Ferragni.
