Brittney and David first met when standing on opposite sides of a wedding aisle in May of 2012. "I was the maid of honor, and he was a groomsman," she remembers. "We connected over surfing, a passion for art, and our desire to do mission work overseas." They even have a photo from that night, taken by the bride's uncle after he proclaimed that they should have babies together. "It was embarrassing at the time, but we're so happy to have the photo now!" laughs Brittney.
Just over two years later, David took Brittney to Lake Tahoe for her favorite holiday: The Fourth of July. He rented a boat, then prepared a three-course meal of cheese and wine, ribs (perfect for his Texan bride), and Drumstick ice cream cones. As the fireworks started, David got down on one knee. The couple got right to planning, inviting 200 guests to join them at Camp Lucy in Dripping Springs, Texas for a long weekend celebrating the New Year, culminating in a sophisticated Tex-Mex wedding on January 3rd, 2015. Brittney used to be a consultant at Kleinfeld, so she knows her way around a wedding dress. "I've seen all sorts of body types and styles, and have witnessed every horror story of a bride trying on too many dresses and not being able to choose," she says. So instead, she only visited a few shops, and tried on five dresses total. She ended up falling for a dress she'd put on so many other brides before, a slightly fitted Anne Barge gown with a strapless sweetheart neckline and a layer of Alencon lace draped over silk. "After looking at dozens of lace gowns, I decided to look for something totally different, until I saw this one," Brittney says.
Her bridesmaids matched the gray, cream, and black color scheme, choosing knee-length gowns that fit their style. Bouquets of olive branches and ranunculus tied them all together.
The flower girls wore gray, with the older girls in voile dresses that Brittney designed and the younger girls in Zara creations with white embroidery.

The ceremony took place in Ian's Chapel, a 19th century chapel that Camp Lucy's owner discovered in Vietnam and had disassembled and brought to Texas. The chapel's beauty was left undecorated, save for votive candles clustered around the altar.
Brittney designed the programs, as well as the "Uncle David, Here Comes Your Bride!" sign that the ring bearer carried in.
After they said "I do," Brittney and David paused on their way out of the church to ring the bell.
Inside the event hall, a mix of round and long tables were topped with centerpieces the bride assembled from flowers found in the venue's gardens.
Olive branches and wheat were added to the silver buckets, matching the bride and bridesmaids' bouquets. The Tex-Mex menu featured fajitas (the bride and groom's favorite meal) and traditional margaritas made with fresh lime juice and simple syrup the groomsmen had prepared the night before.
Two burros were on-hand and had been brought in to carry around cold beers to guests. "They got commandeered by our guests' children, who spent the night taking donkey rides!" laughs Brittney.
The couple's first dance was to "Forever and Ever, Amen" by Randy Travis, and three of David's groomsmen (and former band mates) surprised the newlyweds by learning the song and playing it for them.
The wedding cake featured layers of French vanilla cake with praline and salted caramel filling, while the groom's cake was a chocolate ice cream cake with bourbon and dark chocolate chips.
After a sparkler exit, David and Brittney headed to Punta Cana for their honeymoon. The couple did most of the planning themselves, but Brittney reminds couples to put in just as much time into planning the real reason they're having a wedding: "Spend more time planning your marriage than your wedding," she says.
