All is not lost when it comes to Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’s dreamy French wedding: it's reportedly still on!
The couple, who said they were planning a destination wedding for this summer, surprised everyone with a quickie Las Vegas wedding Wednesday night after the Billboard Music Awards, but a source told E!News that it was purely about logistics, AKA actually getting legally married.
"They knew they needed to have a legal ceremony in the U.S. and decided a few weeks ago to do it in Vegas after the Billboard Awards," the source said. "Some of their friends and family would be there so it felt like the perfect timing."
Legally tying the knot isn’t always as simple as saying “I Do,” especially when it comes to destination weddings. In France, where the Game of Thrones star and the Jonas brother are planning to make it official, couples are required to be a resident for legal marriage.
"Their real wedding will be in France this summer, but they thought this would be a fun way to make it legal," the source continued. "They wanted to have it planned out in advance to give friends a chance to come. It was a fun night in Vegas and it worked out perfectly."
Some but not all were able to make it. Nick Jonas, Kevin Jonas, Priyanka Chopra, and Danielle Jonas were all in attendance, but Turner's maid-of-honor and co-star Maisie Williams was noticeably missing.
The Elvis impersonator who officiated their wedding, Jesse Grice, told TMZ that he was booked one week before the wedding but was not told who he would be marrying.
"They booked the chapel for a big block of the night to make sure they had it to themselves and that the timing could be spontaneous,” the source added.
Spontaneous seems to be the perfect word to describe these nuptials, which included a Diplo live stream, Dan + Shay performance and a literally wet after party.
While we’re sure their big celebration won’t even compare to their Las Vegas wedding, the source said that Jonas and Turner are "just so excited to be together and to be married," which is what really matters at the end of the day!
