It's hard to believe that Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello have only been married for two years, since they've provided enough heartwarming love stories to last a lifetime. On Wednesday, the couple will celebrate their second wedding anniversary and, in honor of the occasion, Vergara stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show to gush about her hubby.
"I'm very lucky," Vergara said. "I must have done something really right in my life to get that reward." When DeGeneres suggested that Vergara has been lucky because she's a good person, the Modern Family actress replied, "I'm good, but I'm not a very, very good person. But he's better than me."
DeGeneres then tried to explain American anniversary gifting customs to Vergara to hilarious ends. When the host explained that the second year of marriage is traditionally the "cotton" year, Vergara mumbled, "I don't know what you're talking about," with a deer-in-headlights look on her face. DeGeneres shared that she and wife Portia de Rossi did follow this somewhat strange custom: On their second wedding anniversary, DeGeneres admitted she glued cotton balls to a canvas in the shape of the number two, despite her major aversion to the fluffy swabs.
(Oh, the things we do for love.)
Vergara still didn't understand the concept—and really, who does?—poking fun at DeGeneres's story. "I don't know what's more weird, that you made the two or that you hate cotton. Why would anyone hate cotton?" she joked. The pair ended the conversation without coming to an agreement about the perfect cotton-themed gift, but Vergara undoubtedly has something extravagant planned for her husband.
For their first anniversary, Manganiello took the "paper" theme to heart, writing an entire 40-page book about their relationship, including how they met and fell in love. Don't fret though, Sofia, we've got you covered with these 26 ideas for your second anniversary.
