Perpetually single bridesmaid Janessa James, 21, found a pretty funny way to keep herself in the spotlight at a friend's wedding, and she shared the amazing behind-the-scenes shot that came out of a goofy moment on Reddit. It began when a wedding photographer asked James for some assistance on a bridal shoot and James decided to have a little fun with it.
In the photo—taken in Sundance, Utah, by Chloé Epperson of the Copper Creative—the happily single bridesmaid is dramatically throwing herself to the ground in an effort to help the wedding photographer capture the perfect dress silhouette.
"This is how I am currently feeling about wedding and engagement season coming up," James wrote alongside a photo on Reddit. "Yes, this is an actual photo of me (extremely single) helping my best friend with her bridals. The photographer asked me to throw her train up and then dive out of the shot, and so I did. Very theatrically."
And dive she did.
"The shot came about when the photographer and bride wanted that floating-gown look, and to do that I had to throw the train in the air and then quickly get out of the way," Janessa James tells Brides. "After a while, the photographer realized that I wasn’t getting far enough out of the shot to properly cut me out, so I dove, and she caught the best moment ever."
The photo serves as a general behind-the-scenes tip on how brides consistently nail the dress-romantically-flowing-in-the-wind shot. While it always comes out looking like pure wedding magic, it seems a good friend is always standing in the wings. And James sounds like a very good friend indeed; she tells Brides that she has been a bridesmaid 12 times.
She also gave us some more insight into her long bridal party history: "Being a bridesmaid so many times has made me really good at smiling through the pain. Through the years, I have performed various maid-of-honor original raps, arranged flowers and yelled at many timid and incompetent wedding staffers. Attending and participating in weddings of so many of my friends has taught me to focus on the couple's happiness and nothing else. Your feet may be bleeding, your dress may be hideous and you definitely won't be getting anyone's number, but you'll have some funny pictures and a day that everyone will remember (for various reasons)."
Redditors thought the shot was hilarious, and some were curious if James has a wedding of her own on the horizon. She, emphatically, does not.
