Let Serena Williams eat cake! The tennis star, who tied the knot to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in November, is just FINALLY getting the chance to try her own wedding cake—five months after walking down the aisle.
On November 16, Williams and Ohanion celebrated their nuptials with family and countless a-list friends (helllllo, Beyoncé!) at the Contemporary Art Center of New Orleans. But with all of the excitement of their much-anticipated nuptials, the bride and groom didn't even get a chance to try their own wedding cake. But five months later, the #goals-worthy couple finally had their cake and ate it too, when Lulu Cake Boutique, the baker who created the original confectionery, created a replica.
Williams shared a sugary sweet photo of her and her husband eating the cake to Instagram earlier today.
“Once a year @alexisohanian and I have what we call Selexis day,” the 36-year-old mother of one wrote in the caption. “It can fall on any day out of the year. This year was my year to plan it and I decided to surprise Alexis [by] bringing all his good childhood and young adult friends to the @PUBLIChotels.”
Ohanian, who celebrated his 35th birthday earlier this week, got an extra special surprise from his wife.
“His day started with a scavenger hunt with clues from @ladyjcreative and ended with live band karaoke from the amazing @arleneskaraoke,” she added. “I have to say talking to them I learned a lot more about him.”
Williams finished out the note with a little adage about her big day. “Fun fact,” she mused. “at our wedding we forgot to eat cake so [our] wedding cake designer @everythinglulu made us a replicate cake! We finally got to eat our wedding cake!!! Love you Lex and thanks @jzevents for always making my visions come true.”
Even though the couple missed out on their cake during the big day, they still had plenty of desserts at their nuptials. At the reception, the couple had doughnuts drop down from the ceiling for their guests. In addition to the lavish dessert display, their celebration also featured a Gatorade recovery bar with Gatorade bottles, coconut water, bandaids and Advil, which were all placed at a station with a sign that read, “Party Like a Champ and Recover Like One.”
If anyone deserves a piece of cake, its definitely this girl.
