It’s been nearly a year and a half since tennis superstar Serena Williams walked down the aisle to say her I do's to Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian, but the athlete is still having a blast with her hubs.
The On the Line author, 37, opened up about her marriage during an appearance on the Today show on Wednesday, April 3.
“My whole life I’ve been by myself and with my family and so the merging with a partner that is...just as successful and just as motivated and everything, it’s awesome and it’s amazing,” she said, adding, “It’s been really, really fun.”
The fashion designer also acknowledged the couple's one-year-old daughter, Olympia: “It’s just been so amazing to have [Alexis] in my life and to have my daughter in my life as well,” she gushed. “He has done so much for the family and for us...it’s all new to me.”
Williams and Ohanian tied the knot in New Orleans in November 2017, just two months after welcoming their baby girl.
The Grand Slam champion revealed in an interview with Allure magazine in January that the businessman, 35, stole her heart by allowing her to shine and be her best self.
“Oprah said, ‘Never let anyone dim your light.’ That really stuck with me,” she explained at the time. “Alexis doesn’t dim my light. He doesn’t try to dim my light. He puts me in the light, even if I don’t want to be.”
Prior to meeting Ohanian at the Rome Cavalieri hotel in 2015, Williams admitted she hadn’t had much luck with men truly supporting her and her career: “It always was something that I could see in some relationships—my light would be dimmer. Now I feel like I can shine really bright and still do everything that I want to do. ... “Now I can be selfish, have a great career, and a great partner, someone that believes in me.”
Talk about having your cake and eating it too! Congratulations, you crazy lovebirds—may we all be so lucky!
