When it comes to the coveted maid-of-honor position, it's usually the bride's sister or childhood BFF who scores the title. If you're a bride looking to go the unconventional route, your mom or even your grandmother (like this 89-year-old bridesmaid!) could totally fill in as your MOH. It's your wedding, after all! What matters is that your chosen maid of honor is special to you and serves her purpose—or, in this case, porpoise. In an MOH first, this bride says that her maid of honor is an honest-to-goodness dolphin. A flippin' dolphin! And you thought shopping for your bridesmaids' dresses was tough....
We have, like, So. Many. Questions. Like us at Brides, the consultants at the famous Kleinfeld bridal boutique have seen a hell of a lot. But this is definitely a first. In People magazine's sneak peek of the newest episode of Say Yes to the Dress, bride Lisa Rodgers of Georgia arrives at the salon with her fiancé in tow and an elaborate idea in mind. "We need something crazy, off-the-wall," she tells stylist Randy Fenoli in the preview. "We can do crazy," the seen-it-all consultant assures her. But then Rodgers drops the bomb.
"We're getting married in the water with dolphins," she says. "Wait, say that again," requests Randy. Yeah, we're with ya, Randy. We're going to need to hear that one again.
"My maid of honor is a dolphin," Rodgers explains. "Like a porpoise. Like Flipper." Randy is, understandably, a bit in shock. "I thought I'd heard it all," he says. Same, dude. Same.
For her aquatic ceremony, Rodgers has a specific wedding dress style in mind. "I've brought some bathing suits with me," she says. (Of course she did...) "What I'm thinking is I need a two-piece that has a tear-away skirt that I can take off and have my bathing suit underneath."
While that's certainly not a bad plan, we're still wondering what the dolphin will be wearing for the occasion. Is really no one else curious? Why is that not your first question, Randy?!
