Life imitating art, indeed! Three months after Modern Family star Sarah Hyland’s character Haley Dunphy walked down the aisle to marry her longtime love, Dylan Marshall, the actress has some big news of her own to share: She’s engaged to Wells Adams!
The Bachelorette alum, 35, posted a heartwarming video from their engagement set to the tune of “I Like to Be With Me When I’m With You” by Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors, which showed him getting down on one knee for the sitcom star, 28, on a picturesque beach with a jaw-dropping oval-shaped ring.
Hyland, meanwhile, covers her mouth with her hands in shock before sharing a deeply passionate kiss and embrace with Adams and clinking her wine glass together with his in celebration.
“I’ll be Johnny, you be June. But forever,” he captioned the clip, which also included a gallery of sweet photos of the couple together.
“I love you to Pluto and back FIANCE!!!!” Hyland wrote in the comments section, adding, “When we get married will I automatically acquire your talent for making everyone cry with a homemade video?”
According to WP Diamonds CEO Andrew Brown, who spoke to E! News, the ring appears to be 5-carats and is likely to cost around $175-$200,000.
Just ahead of their engagement, the Dirty Dancing star shared an au natural selfie with Adams, writing, “Sunrise boat rides.”
She also shared a gallery of snaps from the moment her groom-to-be asked her to be his future bride, writing, “That can't eat, can't sleep, reach for the stars, over the fence, world series kind of stuff.”
After the couple announced the news on Instagram a swarm of celebrities from Bachelor Nation and Hollywood alike flocked the comments to send their well wishes. Julie Bowen, who plays Hyland's fictional mother on-screen wrote, "I’m dying...huzzah!!! Couldn’t be happier if you were my own flesh and blood!"
Bachelor host Chris Harrison congratulated the couple, writing, "Congrats brother. Took you long enough." Even Ben Higgins couldn't contain his excitement and fan-girled over the newly-engaged pair, writing, "I'm sobbing. Dang I love these two. You should also. If you don't love @Sarah_Hyland and @WellsAdams you aren't someone I want to be friends with. Holy moly I'm jacked. Congrats! Also, @WellsAdams and @Sarah_Hyland I am your biggest fan."
More Bachelor Nation stars, including Hannah Brown, Jason Tartick, Kaitlyn Bristowe and Raven Nicole Gates, also congratulated the couple. Brandi Cyrus penned, "FINALLLLYYYY!!!!!!!" and Lily Collins also chimed in with "Ahhhhhh congratulations!!!! So excited for you xxx."
The twosome, who have been dating since October 2017, have been talking about making things official for some time: Hyland told Entertainment Tonight as far back as March 2018 that she had already shared the type of engagement ring she wanted with her beau. “He knows what it is, so it’s fine,” she said.
According to a source for Fox News, it was Adams' consistency during Hyland's health issues—the actress suffers from kidney dysplasia, for which she has undergone two kidney transplants, in addition to endometriosis—that assured her he was "The One." “She saw him for the man he really was over the past year-and-a-half or so when he never wavered while Sarah battled through her health issues,” a source close to the star told Fox News. “That was super important to Sarah because as strong of a woman as Sarah is, Wells showed her that he wasn’t going anywhere,”
The insider added: "Wells was at Sarah’s side either physically or via FaceTime every step of the way and did everything in his power to lift her spirits and make sure she was at ease, even during her times of discomfort."
Adams, too, has made it plenty clear that he fully intended to pop the question, telling Us Weekly in January 2019 that it was “Definitely going to happen."
He also revealed his vision for their big day to the magazine. "I want our dogs to be involved in the ceremony,” he said at the time. “That’s gonna be important.”
Hyland certainly appears to be on board with his plans: She shared a story about a bride who sent adoptable shelter dogs down the aisle in lieu of flowers to her Instagram Stories in May 2019, writing, “I will be doing this.”
In addition to making his plans to ask for Hyland's hand known, the reality star shut down rumors that he would use her funds to purchase her ring. “Can I go on the record right here? I will pay for this ring,” he told listeners on his podcast, “Your Favorite Thing." “I promise you. It will come out of my bank account, OK?”
From the looks of things, he did a pretty bang-up job!
