Amazing food, Golden Gate Bridge views, and incredible vineyards a quick drive away. What could be better than getting married in San Francisco? The city is oozing charm, which means there are some truly amazing venues to pick from for your wedding. But what should they cost? Thankfully, we've got experts to give us the insight you need when you're starting your venue search. Alicia Falango, wedding planner and founder of Alicia K Designs, filled us in on what to expect when you ask your dream venue for a proposal.
While the fees at a hotel ballroom will range from $3,000 to $6,000 and cover things like tables, conference chairs, and basic linens and place settings, remember that there is also a food and beverage minimum that you'll have to cover (or easily surpass if you're having a larger group). "And some hotels also have room rental numbers you'll need to meet, too," says Falango, so you'll want to encourage your guests to stay on-site. Adds Falango, "It goes without saying: The nicer the hotel, the nicer those 'basic' elements included in the fee will be."
Lofts and Blank Spaces
"The fees are lower, but costs can go up quickly because you have a completely blank slate to fill and decorate," says Falango. "But the benefit to a venue like this is that you have control over which vendors you choose (and therefore how much you spend), unlike when you're locked into prices at a hotel or restaurant." Fees can start at $3,500, but will go up quickly depending on the time of year, how much of the venue you plan to use, and how many guests you'll have.
In San Francisco, getting married at a restaurant can actually be quite expensive. "Very few restaurants have dedicated event spaces, which means they'll require a complete buyout," says Falango. "For a Saturday night, this can start at $25,000, which is just for the food and beverage, and doesn't include other event costs like additional décor or entertainment." But, Falango continues, if you're having a smaller wedding and can find a private room that fits your group, it can be a little more affordable.
The great thing about San Francisco's location is that there are vineyards so close at hand, so you don't have to head deep into wine country for your wedding. The downside? "These venues are getting more and more expensive, and usually start at $10,000," says Falango. "And your costs will be higher because most of these venues, while absolutely stunning, are basically glorified farms. You'll have to cover lighting, generators, additional bathrooms, and transportation for your guests, on top of rentals and décor." A few vineyards do have almost everything included so you're not renting or bringing in quite as much, but they tend to come with higher fees — ones that could be even more than bringing it all in yourself, as you're paying for the convenience, too.
From ballrooms to banks to mansions, San Francisco has a wealth of gorgeous historic venues that are some of the nicest places to get married in the city. However, they're also some of the most expensive. "You're looking at a $10,000 rental fee, which literally just gives you access to the space. So you'll be paying to bring in catering, furniture, linens, china, lighting, staging, and more... it adds up!" says Falango.
