A Rustic-Glam Wedding in Sacramento, California

College sweethearts Andrea Ryncarz, 28, and Carl Fereira, 29, met in Calculus class during her freshman year. Their relationship started innocently enough, as study partners for the class, until their first date on Valentine's Day. "After that, we knew right away that we were meant to be," Andrea says.

In September of 2013, during a vacation in Maui, Carl proposed to Andrea on a secluded beach at sunset. "We celebrated with dinner at our favorite restaurant, Mama's Fish House," she says. Nine months later, on June 14, 2014, they tied the knot during a Catholic ceremony at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, which was followed by an intimate, 90-guest reception to Cafeteria 15L in Sacramento.

Andrea chose an elegant silk mermaid gown with chiffon detailing designed by Vera Wang. "I have a more traditional style, and this was really true to that," she says. "I loved that the dress was a blank canvas that I could change throughout the day."

She topped the dress with a lace bolero for the ceremony, then swapped it out for a silk bow belt during the reception. Her shoes, a bright pop of blue, were a gift from Carl several years before the couple was engaged. "When I first saw those Manolo Blahnik pumps, I fell in love and he surprised me with them that Christmas," she says. The perfect something old and something blue!

To contrast her traditional gown, Andrea's bridesmaids wore floor-length, champagne sequined Badgley Mischka gowns paired with gold flat sandals and pearl earrings. The best part? They were borrowed from Rent the Runway!

For a no-fuss option for his groomsmen, Carl (in a navy Hugo Boss suit) asked that they wear their own navy suits and matching navy polka-dot bowties.

The bride's bouquet was a loose bunch of champagne, blush, and ivory roses and peonies and sprigs of mint, tied with a trailing lace ribbon. To add a punch of color, the bridesmaids carried oversized hot pink peonies wrapped with navy silk ribbons. After the wedding, Andrea's mother, an avid gardener, planted the mint from her daughter's bouquet, and the newlyweds have been using it in drinks and recipes ever since.

To complement the more industrial venue and give the reception a rustic, handmade look, Andrea asked a calligrapher to write table assignments on chalkboards of varying sizes. She then placed each on gold stands atop a sequined tablecloth and finished the display with a bay leaf garland.

The couple's venue, Cafeteria 15L, is within walking distance of the cathedral where they exchanged vows. "We've always loved it there, especially the mix of wood, greenery and all the outdoor seating," Andrea says. The ivy-covered pergola, metal seating, white textured table linens and burlap accents added visual interest that the couple felt most represented their style.

To add more texture to the space, Andrea and Carl used zinc table numbers and chose two different centerpieces for each style of table. The round tables were dressed with floral linens and round zinc corrugated vases while the long wooden farmers' tables were given burlap runners and a white rectangular vase filled with an array of pink, blush and coral peonies.

The bride and groom's chairs were decorated with peonies and tied with flowing ivory ribbons. Andrea and Carl served two signature cocktails for their big day: a spiked fresh lemonade for Carl and a St. Germain-tinged pear concoction for her.

Andrea's first purchase after getting engaged was a swan cake topper from BHLDN. "I loved the gold touches and the adorable little bow tie on the groom swan," she says. "So we carried that metallic and feathered look throughout both layers."

At the end of their big day, the newlyweds returned to Maui and Kauai for their honeymoon. "Maui is our special place, and it was so fun to explore an island we'd never been to" Andrea says. "It all really goes by as fast as they say, so I had to keep reminding myself to soak it all in."
