Step right up and place your bets! We've still got a ways to go before Prince William and Kate Middleton welcome Royal Baby Number Three into the world, but we already have that book of baby names out and we're highlighting our faves. (The Duke and Duchess are totally going to take our advice, right?) And we're not the only ones with our minds on monikers. A British bookmaker has tallied up the odds of which names are most likely to be chosen for Will and Kate's little one. Did your top pick make the cut? (Come on, we know you've been thinking about this, too…)
Already parents to Prince George, four, and Princess Charlotte, two, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced just this past weekend that they're expecting their third child. And although we don't know this tiny royal's due date or gender yet, some regally-minded gamblers already think they know the name. According to Time, London-based bookmaker William Hill revealed the odds of what the royal baby's name will be, with Alice taking the top spot with odds at 8/1.
While Alice is a sweet-sounding option, the names Elizabeth (10/1), James (12/1), and Arthur (12/1) aren't far behind.
Another British bookmaker, Ladbrokes, has since posted similar odds with Alice also taking the top spot at 7/1, with runners-up Arthur (10/1), Victoria (10/1), Alexandra (12/1), Albert (14/1), and Phillip (14/1) all following.
According to William Hill, the chances of Duchess Kate giving birth to a boy or girl are equal—go figure—but the odds of a perfect pair of royal twins is surprisingly high at 33/1 odds.
What's not too surprising are the chances of this regal newborn being named after a former or current member of the royal family. Diana currently holds odds of 16/1, even though the couple's two-year-old daughter already bares the moniker in her full name, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Margaret, the name of the Queen's late sister, has odds of 20/1, and Charles (to honor the baby's grandfather) also stands a chance at odds 25/1.
