Move over, Romeo and Juliet, this bride and groom's themed nuptials completely redefined romance. Australian-Filipino actress and singer Kylie Padilla and Filipino actor Aljur Abrenica tied the knot) on Tuesday, and their wedding was straight out of Shakespeare.
On December 11, the Filipino stars said their I do's at Villa Milagros in Rizal, Philippines. The couple's nuptials seemed to be inspired, not by the original play, but by Baz Luhrmann's 1996 film Romeo + Juliet, starring Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio. From the deep fuchsia floral arrangements to the scattered candelabras, the wedding's decor, designed by Gideon Hermosa, gave the celebration a dramatic 16th-century look.
Hermosa styled the venue with dark red tapestries covering the walls and covered the floors with red and white floral arrangements. The aisle was a long, reflective black runner with a poem inscribed for the length of the walkway.
The bride stunned in a gorgeous long-sleeved ball gown by Mak Tumang. According to Cosmopolitan Philippines, she walked down the aisle to Des'ree's "I'm Kissing You," a song that was made popular by the 1996 film.
Wedding planner La Belle Fête Weddings & Events, told the publication that the theme of the celebration was "ethereal, moody, and dramatic, just like how they [Kylie and Aljur] wanted it to be. It also symbolizes that the most beautiful things emerge from darkness and adversities."
In addition to their gorgeous wedding shoot, the bride and groom took a handful of dramatic shots that thoroughly captured the tragic yet beautiful vibe of the iconic play.
Though it was lavish, the celebration was intimate; only 70 guests attended the couple's celebration. Celebrity guests included actresses Diva Montelaba, Gabbi Garcia, and Maritoni Fernandez.
“I couldn’t be happier. My two babies are married. It is done. What God has put together, let no man pull apart. Today, my heart rejoices,” Fernandez wrote in a caption on Instagram, alongside a shot of the newlyweds.
