First comes the man of your dreams, then comes the ring... With visions of stones, settings, and precious metals that exude elemental elegance, designer Vanessa Lianne has mastered both luxury and approachability (and made it completely affordable!). Working closely with clients on a one-on-one basis, she creates enviable bespoke engagement rings and wedding bands using recycled metals and ethnically sourced stones from her studio in Brooklyn.
Vanessa Lianne Jewelry (VL) is best known for its buttery matte finish and extraordinary liquid metal appearance. The look is achieved by using a signature technique, developed by Vanessa herself, that creates layers of texture, giving the rings their unique impression as if to be melting and dripping. She is also, conveniently, a precious gemstone mastermind. Originating breathtaking designs by setting the jewels sometimes upside down or sideways and pairing unique stones of every make and color with gems like antique mine-cut diamonds and organic-cut grey diamonds (which, if you are not familiar look like diamonds with specs of silver glitter in them. Yes, so much yes).
Her must knows about a client in order to conceptualize the ideal ring? She focuses more on lifestyle, asking questions like: What is her personal style? What's her aesthetic (romantic, modern, vintage, simple)? What other types of jewelry does she wear or never take off? Lianne also makes men's bands, so she is sure to always ask them both what special interests or meaningful symbols they share as a couple, as well as individually. The responses leads them swiftly to a uniquely custom made ring. Like that one client whose fiancé was utterly infatuated with archeology, so they worked together to design a ring for her that looked like a relic to behold; the client even sourced the stone from the place where she grew up! Ugh, grabs heart... Or her favorite suggestion: incorporating secret stones, quotes, or lyrics on the inside of bands (so they don't interfere with the overall design) that symbolizes a meaningful personal message about a couple's love story.
Vanessa emphasizes that selecting the center stone is the most significant and special part of the process; "There is usually one stone that really speaks to the customer or I find a stone that is really inspiring and we create the ring around the stone." Once the gem is chosen and the overall concept is conceived and agreed upon, she immediately gets to work on completing the piece. The whole process takes about 4-8 weeks from design to ring on finger. Engagement rings range in price from $800 to $3,500, depending on stones, metals, and how elaborate a design is. As for wedding bands, they too, are priced dependent on materials such as 14K gold, 18K gold, silver, platinum, etc, and can start as low as $350, ranging to $3,500 for ones that incorporate jewels like diamonds, sapphires, or rubies.
Not sure you could articulate all that you would want in a custom ring? Not to worry! Stay on the lookout for an alternative bridal line by VL that will include engagement rings, wedding bands, and wedding jewelry launching soon! All of which can be bought as is or customized upon request. Brb, literally re-planning our rings as we speak.
