Putting together the perfect wedding — or red carpet — ensemble is quite a production. And since meticulously ensuring that each accessory and item pairs together perfectly and enhances the desired final outcome is no small task, how divine is it when you can leave out a step? Gowns with highly embellished necklines — which Emma Stone, Naomie Harris and Lily Collins were all seen pulling off this week on the red carpet — add layers of personality to a look while also sneakily eliminating the need for a necklace, making them a trend we totally love. Rather than stressing about what type of necklace will enhance your wedding dress without looking too casual/gaudy/out of place/enter other bridal stressor here, let your dress designer do the leg work for you.
Here are some of our favorite ways these stars pulled off the embellished neckline this week — use these chic, red carpet-approved ensembles as inspiration for your own wedding day look.
Naomie Harris at the British Independent Film Awards
Naomi’s Gucci number really does have it all — punchy colors and an embellished floral print add a heavy dose of fun, while her intricately designed tulle neckline and sleeves add drama and a touch more demureness. The pleating and bead work in the tulle give it a level of design sophistication not often seen on the fabric and also give us major bridal lust. Trade the black for ivory, and this bodice at a wedding boutique would make us scream ‘yes’ to the dress for sure.
Emma Stone at the premiere of La La Land
Emma’s gauzy blue Prada gown is accented with not just crystals, sequins and beads, but also a ribbon, which delivers shades of the current choker trend (talk about the perfect way to embrace your favorite '90s trend without having to wear that stretchy tattoo necklace to a bridal event!). The florets and color pattern of the highly embellished look keep it from being gaudy, but could certainly satisfy the ‘sparkle bug’ in the best of us. Bridal shower fodder, anyone?
Lily Collins at a Santa Barbara International Film Festival Award Ceremony
Perhaps the most literally bridal in nature, Lily’s Reem Acra gown could easily be worn down the aisle by a non-traditional bride. We love the art-deco-meets-greek-goddess-meets-screen-siren vibe of the dress: The placement of the lace and the cut-outs keep things modern and fresh, while the sparkling neckline straps pay ode to very classic aesthetics. The contrast in color from the silver and black to the icy blue almost seems jarring, and offer a level of design sophistication that would wow even the most seasoned fashionista at your nuptials.
