When it comes to learning from one of the decade's best bridal beauty experts, there's no better guru to take guidance from than beauty and lifestyle expert, Alexis Wolfer. After the unbelievable success of her all things beauty, health, and wellness blog, The Beauty Bean, and her inspirational first book, The Recipe For Radiance, the queen of all things holistic and empowering is sitting down with BRIDES to chat about her newest endeavor, full of expert bridal beauty, diet, fitness, and fashion tips, with her new book, Radiant Bride.
After scouring the shelves of Barnes and Noble to find a book that successfully journeyed brides from "engagement to honeymoon," Alexis officially decided that she would fill the gap in both the bridal industry, and the shelf, when it came to creating a wedding book worth recommending. "When friends that are getting married asked me what book to recommend, I found none that focus specifically on the bride," The Beauty Bean Editor-in-chief told BRIDES. Alexis also made it a point that in writing for brides-to-be, "I didn't want the book to be about weight loss, or trend based, but something that helped brides really radiate."
When it comes to the question of brides who are drastically trying to change their look before their big day, whether it's with calorie counting, or hours at the gym, Alexis's brilliant advice on the subject simply translated to "don't." "People often forget that their person proposed to them when they looked exactly how they do currently. You don't need to change. There's no need to change yourself to look a certain way for the party." The empowering author went on to point out that she created Radiant Bride in an effort to help "every bride feel holistically whole" on their big day.
With more than a decade of obtaining beauty tips, products, and health and fitness guidelines from all over the world, we were curious to know what Alexis saw as the best piece of beauty advice she had ever received. "My grandmother always said that 'gravity does a great job of pulling everything down, so you should always rub up.'" When it comes to applying moisturizer, sunscreen, and pretty much anything else on your face, it's important to remember just how fragile the layers are on your skin, and that over time, these layers become more and more fragile. Another piece of passed-down advice the beauty expert spilled was one from her mother, who said to always, "focus on skincare and not on makeup." Alexis elaborated with the importance of "focusing on proper sun protection, and skin care products that can help provide long term results, are much more valuable than cheap eyeliner." We definitely agree!
After receiving an impressive Master's Degree from Columbia University with a focus in women's studies, Alexis strategically found herself marrying her career with her two great passions, women's empowerment, and beauty and fashion. "I realized that the ultimate human right is to love yourself. I didn't plan on being in the beauty world, but I realized there must be a better way to do lifestyle content."
We couldn't help but ask Wolfer's thoughts on her favorite celebrity bridal beauty look, which just so happens to be BRIDES cover girl Olivia Palermo. "Olivia Palermo with her chic ponytail is to this day the best bridal beauty look I've ever seen. That look just felt so real." When relating the stunning socialite's wedding day look to her new book, Alexis found a lot of similarities in dealing with authenticity and self-confidence. "The entire book is about you being your best you, not adhering to other ideals. I wished more brides really embraced themselves and didn't focus on what they think they should look like on their wedding day. Stick with the things that you do well and feel most authentically you."
When it comes to Wolfer's goals for 2016? Gratitude. "I always try to be really conscious of being grateful. I want to keep a notebook of what I'm grateful for every night, and at the end of 2016 to go back and read it."
