A maid of honor is more than just a bride’s best friend or sister. She’s a confidante, a support system, a planner of parties, and a voice of reason. Start off by thinking about what you, as a bride, will need through the planning process. Do you need extra hands for those DIY projects, or are you outsourcing all that to the pros? Do you want someone to help you brainstorm design ideas? Will she need to be available to help you actually plan the wedding, or is it more of an honorary role? 1. She’s Supportive
Choosing a maid of honor who is supportive and understanding can make a world of difference in the planning process. That could mean hearing you out when you’re arguing with your fiancé, taking your side when you’re trying to get everyone on board with your design ideas, or simply being there as a friend when you need it.
2. She’s Timely
There’s nothing worse than a bridesmaid who’s late, and there are no exceptions for your MOH! Choose someone who will be on time—or, better yet, early!—to any and all events, from your bridal shower to getting ready the morning of your wedding. This will help ease stress, keep you on time, and give you an extra set of hands if you need a little help.
3. She’s Enthusiastic
It’s your wedding, so excitement and a positive attitude are a must! A maid of honor who is as excited about the wedding as you are will keep spirits high (including yours!) and make sure everyone’s in a great mood. Is stuffing invitations fun? Not really. But a little enthusiasm will make the task that much easier.
4. She’s a Good Leader
If you’ve got bridesmaids in addition to your maid of honor, choosing someone who will lead and organize the group is key. The last thing you want to be doing is wrangling everyone to make sure they’ve ordered their dresses, booked their flights, or know when they need to show up for hair and makeup. That’s what a great MOH is for!
