Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra added to a long list of whirlwind celebrity proposals this summer by getting engaged in July, just two months after dating speculations initially began. And, thank goodness the former Jonas Brother fell so fast and put a ring on it ASAP, because Chopra admits that she still felt "single" up until the engagement.
Despite stealing the show as one another's 2017 Met Gala dates and finally becoming #RelationshipOfficial in May 2018, Chopra revealed to People at Monday's Bumble India launch event that Jonas' straight-out-of-Sweet-Home-Alabama proposal was the defining relationship status indicator.
"This is the first time I was comfortable with being with someone who is such an incredible partner, so it just felt natural," she gushed about her fiancé, who fulfilled her dreams of a Tiffany and Co. engagement. "And plus there was a ring on it! I always said that when there’s a ring on it I’ll talk about it because you’re single until you’re married."
And ever since they went public, the two have been engaging in plenty of social media flirtations, proving the couple has an untreatable case of the love bug. Chopra also dished to People about the key to her relationship success with Jonas.
"Truly this is what worked for me, he has to be someone who respects you," she said. "Then everything is so easy because you give each other credit for your intelligence, you give each other the benefit of the doubt because you trust each other."
Jonas and Chopra's engagement also served as a long-awaited cue for the ultra private actress to open up about her love life. During the event, she also went on to defend her prior dating privacy.
"I’ve never been public about my relationships. But that was a decision I took when I was very young," the 36-year-old explained. "Especially in entertainment because women have such public lives, we always end up being reduced to a plus one or ‘blahblahblah’s’ girlfriend. And I wanted to give myself enough time where I’m able to stand on my own two feet and have my identity as well." Now there's the feminist that her BFF Meghan Markle would be proud of.
At only three months into their engagement, the betrothed duo already seems to be making major wedding headway. Foreshadowing her own bridal ensemble, Chopra donned a white Marchesa number to her bridal shower in New York City over the weekend (unsurprisingly held at Tiffany's Blue Box Cafe).
Additionally, Chopra recently confessed that she feels the need to "catch up" with her current pregnant celebrity counterparts (coughMeghanMarklecough), meaning the wedding and a family may be fast-tracked sooner than we think. We're officially Burnin' Up for these lovebirds, baby.
