Priyanka Chopra Says She Didn't Expect to Fall for Husband Nick Jonas

"I judged a book by its cover."

They say when you know, you know when it comes to love, but for Priyanka Chopra, that wasn’t exactly the case—at least not right away.

The Quantico alum, 36, opened up about her initial impression of her husband—and how he eventually won her over—while speaking at the 10th annual Women in the World Summit on Thursday, April 11.

“I didn’t think that this would be what it turned out to be,” she confessed with a laugh. “And that’s maybe my fault, I judged a book by its cover.”

Lucky for her, the “Jealous” singer, 26, had a few tricks up his sleeve to woo her. “I think that when I actually started dating Nick, he surprised me so much,” she told the crowd. “I call him 'Old Man Jonas.' That’s my name for him, OMJ. He’s such an old soul, extremely smart, so good for me because he grounds me so much.”

The self-described “wild child” says that she was first struck by the way the Disney alum supported her early on in their relationship.

“We were on a date and it was time for the date to get over, we were [with] a bunch of friends, and I had a meeting ... and I was dropping a bunch of hints to my friends, and they were like, “No, don’t go for a meeting, just stay,” she recalled.

Though the actress wanted to blow off her responsibilities, suggesting to Jonas that if “someone gave her reason enough to cancel it,” she would, her significant other refused to be the thing to come between her and her career.

“He took me aside and he was like, ‘Look. I’m not stupid, I know what you’re trying to do, but I would never be the one who would tell you to cancel work, because I know how hard you’ve worked to be where you are,’” Chopra said.

Jonas then offered to take their friends out for dinner while she headed off to her meeting.

“I was just like, ‘That’s the first time someone’s ever done that.’”

Since then, it’s been smooth sailing for the duo, who wed in December 2018 with not one, but two lavish ceremonies (and four receptions besides), though the Baywatch star admitted on Good Morning America in February that she had a minor case of cold feet prior to walking down the aisle.

“I had a freak-out moment when I was standing right behind the curtains and they were going to tell me when to walk out and the music was going to start playing," she told the daytime talk show hosts.

One look at Jonas was all it took to ease her worry. “I just started having a panic attack and then the doors opened and I saw him. And I cannot forget that moment."

Guess she’s a “Sucker” for his love!
